Jakub Vadlejch was born in Prague on October 10, 1990. He is 1.91 centimeters tall and weighs 93 kilograms. He is a Czech athlete, champion in the javelin throw and silver medalist in the specialty at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.
He represented his country six times at the World Athletics Championships (2011 to 2023), winning the silver medal in 2017 and the bronze medal in 2022 and 2023. He also won the Diamond League title in 2016, 2017 and 2023.
Early career
Vadlejch has taken part in international javelin competitions since he was a boy, reaching the final at the 2007 World Youth Track and Field Championships, the 2008 World Junior Track and Field Championships and the 2009 European Junior Track and Field Championships.
His senior debut, however, was at the 2010 European Championships, where he participated only in the qualifiers. He then competed in the javelin throw at the 2012 Olympics and and failed to make it past the qualifying round by throwing 77.61 meters.
In 2016 that Vadlejch achieved his first major honors: he reached the final at the 2016 Olympics, taking eighth place, and won the Diamond League final for the first time. While at the 2017 World Championships in London, he took silver by improving to 89.73 meters.
He later won the silver medal at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, coming in just behind India’s Neeraj Chopra. It was a challenge that was also repeated at the Diamond League in Eugene in 2023, where Jakub Vadlejch left behind his most illustrious rivals to win a prestigious title: first place, with a final throw of 84.24 meters.
Age: Vadlejch at 33 years old is currently one of the most seasoned competitors at the elite level in the world javelin. But in his case it is true that age makes experience: he reached the magical 90-meter mark in 2022 (90.88) and in 2023 he achieved a season’s best with a throw of 89.51 meters.
Origins: Vadlejch is from the same country as Jan Železný, world record holder of 98.48 meters in 1996, who has also been his coach since his youth, accompanying him in his growth.
